Visit of Bishop Thomas Macwan of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India

The Most Rev. Bishop Thomas Ignatius Macwan of the Diocese of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India never imagined in his whole life that he would ever have the opportunity to visit the Philippines.  But in May 2011, through the assistance of Sr. Savita Parmar of Elsie Gaches Village, MBMG extended an invitation to Bishop Thomas.  Through the generosity of Josie Razon, the travel arrangements were finalized and the ten-day visit began on the 11th of May. For the Bishop, it was a great joy to be in a land of many Churches and many Catholics.  It was a joy for him to see a land that was clean and green and a people he deemed disciplined and orderly.  For those of us fortunate enough to travel around the metropolis with him, it was an opportunity to appreciate the many gifts of our land and people as seen through the eyes of a very sympathetic foreigner.

The Bishop visited Christ the King Greenmeadows, where he was briefed on the work of the guild, with the hope that a similar organization can be set up in India.  He also visited the Loyola House of Studies, San Jose Seminary, EAPI, the GK Village in Novaliches, and he went along for the pilgrimage to Las Pinas and a field trip to Taal.  The highlight of the visit was a courtesy call on Cardinal Rosales, whose hospitality and lively, nostalgia-filled stories of his life in Mindanao touched Bishop Thomas deeply.
